Stucco and exterior finishes
New stucco on an ADU or an addition, repairs on the main house, and a finish that lets the two read as one property.
Making the new match the old
When a unit or room goes up next to an existing house, the exterior is where a mismatch shows first. We look at the texture, the color and the trim on the main house and plan the new walls to sit beside them without looking patched on.
Repair, recoat or start over
Hairline cracks, a stained wall and stucco that has come loose from the lath are three different problems. We open up the suspect areas, check what sits behind the finish, and tell you whether a patch, a new color coat or a full new system is the honest answer.
What goes under the finish
Paper, lath, window flashing and the screed along the bottom edge decide how long a stucco job lasts. On new work we build those layers to code, and on repairs we fix them where the damage started.
Stucco & Exterior: questions
We match texture and color as closely as the materials allow and recommend recoating a full wall plane when a patch would stand out.
Yes. Stucco repair and recoating on the main house is a project by itself, and we price it that way.
Cosmetic recoats often do not. Replacing the lath and paper, or stucco on new construction, usually does. We confirm with your city before work starts.
Ask about your exterior
Tell us what the walls look like and whether new construction is involved. We reply with how we would approach it.
